In March 2018, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that IDE Technologies planned to test two new processes at demonstration plants in California. At the Central Coast Blue facility, a Pismo Beach project, a preventive membrane care method without chloramine that stops NDMA from forming was to be trialled at 220 m³/day. At the Regional Recycled Water Advanced Purification Centre, run with Southern California's Metropolitan Water District and the Los Angeles County sanitation districts, the focus was reverse osmosis for treated wastewater, sized at 1,893 m³/day.
The report showed that seawater desalination suppliers were increasingly testing their reverse osmosis know-how for wastewater reuse in California, where communities wanted reliable local water sources.
