In March 2018, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Corpus Christi Polymers (CCP), a new joint venture, was set to buy an unfinished industrial site in Corpus Christi, Texas, with a partly built desalination plant. Seller M&G USA belonged to a group in Chapter 11 since October 2017. In January 2018 the Port of Corpus Christi had decided to bid only for the desalination unit. CCP, owned by Alpek, Indorama and Far Eastern Investment, agreed to pay USD 1.126 billion for the site to finish the PTA-PET factory.

The report showed that the desalination plant was only one component of a large petrochemical project, and that the port's plan for a standalone water supply receded with the sale of the entire site.
