Industry seeks network for desalinated water, Kutch, India

In May 2018, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported, citing Business World, that industrial operators in Gujarat's Kutch district wanted to use the public pipeline network to move water from their own desalination plants. The utility Gujarat Water Infrastructure Ltd (GWIL) had stopped supplying industry from the Anjar-Mandvi pipeline in April 2018. Water normally came from the Sardar Sarovar Dam, whose levels had fallen after a weak monsoon. The FOKIA industry federation offered to pay for desalination and transport itself.

The report showed water scarcity pushing industry to plan desalination at its own expense, and access to existing distribution infrastructure becoming the deciding factor.
