Water utility demands full output, Teshie, Ghana

In March 2020, the Daily Graphic reported that Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) had urged the company running the Teshie desalination plant to raise production to full capacity without delay. After a long outage, the plant had restarted on March 18 and was delivering an average of 40,000 m³/day instead of the possible 60,000 m³/day. GWCL spokesman Stanley Martey said the operators themselves had requested the shutdown for maintenance. He added that the utility had since replaced its own pipelines, which could now take the full volume.

The report showed how much Ghana's water utility relied on full output from the Teshie desalination plant at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
