In January 2018, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Fisia Italimpianti had secured a reverse osmosis plant contract worth USD 100 million for Salalah in south-western Oman. Fisia held 51 percent of a joint venture with Abengoa that was to build the plant within 27 months. Fisia belonged to an ACWA-led consortium that also included Veolia and Dhofar International Development and Investment. It was one of four Salini Impregilo group awards in Oman, the US and Abu Dhabi totalling USD 490 million.

The report showed how desalination projects in Oman were delivered through consortia of developers, operators and contractors, with the construction contract forming only one part of the overall scheme.
