In March 2021, Smart Energy International reported that PUB, Singapore's national water agency, awarded DuPont a grant of 1.3 million dollars, acting for the National Research Foundation. The company was to test Closed Circuit Reverse Osmosis (CCRO) for use in seawater desalination, saving energy and making operation more flexible. DuPont had gained the technology in January 2020 by buying Desalitech. According to a statement, CCRO achieved recovery rates of 90 to 98 percent with brackish water.
The report showed that Singapore steered grant money towards lowering the energy demand of seawater desalination and partnered with a technology group to do so.
