A different threat, the same lesson. After the vessel Caroline Bezengi ran aground off the Al Hallaniyat Islands, an oil slick spread across some 390 km² of Omani coastal water. Oman's Environment Authority confirmed that the desalination plants and the coastal zone were not affected, and stepped up containment.
Kuwait shows what a deliberate strike does. Oman shows the everyday case: an accident at sea, drifting toward the one thing a Gulf state cannot lose. The plant was never the risk here either - the intake was. That an authority could check and confirm quickly is not luck, it is monitoring built in advance.
