The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a USD 45 million loan. A plant in the Sumgait industrial zone will treat about 300,000 m³ of Caspian Sea water a day. It is the country's first SWRO plant and its first PPP in the water sector. ACWA Power is the sole sponsor, the agreement with the State Water Resources Agency runs for 25 years from commercial operation, and the Ministry of Finance guarantees the payments.
First PPP, state payment guarantee, a single sponsor: this project will show whether the model works in the country.
