In March 2021, Acciona reported that the expansion of the Umm Al Houl seawater reverse osmosis plant in Qatar had reached its full output of 282 million litres a day, or 282,000 m³/day, and completed final tests ahead of schedule. Together with the existing plant, the site reached 564,000 m³/day for 1.1 million people, the country's largest reverse osmosis desalination facility. Acciona was responsible for design, procurement, construction and commissioning. Construction took 22 months.

The pace stood out: 22 months of construction under pandemic conditions. For Acciona it was already the third reverse osmosis plant in Qatar, integrated into an existing water and power complex.
