By December 2023 at the latest, ACCIONA had announced a five-year extension, to 2029, of its contract to operate the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Plant in Florida. ACCIONA had won a 20-year contract in 2004 to redesign, build and operate the facility and runs it with partner US Water Services Corporation. With a peak capacity of 108,000 m³/day, it was the largest plant in the United States when built. Since entering service in 2007, it had supplied 159 million m³ of drinking water for wholesale supplier Tampa Bay Water.

The report showed a desalination plant still in service after some 16 years of operation, with an operating contract extended to a total of 25 years.
