In September 2017, the Provincial Development Council (PDC) of Bohol endorsed a proposed desalination facility in Dauis on Panglao Island, The Freeman reported. The council took the decision at its meeting on 8 September. The plant was to run partly on solar panels during the day, with Boheco-1 otherwise supplying power. The site in Barangay San Isidro covers 5,298 m², and the municipality was still negotiating its purchase. Panglao faced a severe shortage of drinking water, and electricity cost up to 12 pesos per kWh.
The report showed how a tourist island sought to tackle water scarcity and expensive power together: the desalination plant was planned with its own solar supply from the outset.
