In September 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Dutch and French companies were shipping mobile desalination plants to Saint Martin in the Caribbean. Hurricane Irma had struck the power grid on 6 September, halting the island's desalination. Hatenboer Water and Dutch Water Partners flew in three mobile reverse osmosis units: two RO Oceanus units rated at 24 m³/day and one RO Proteus at 70 m³/day. Veolia sent another unit to Pointe-à-Pitre on Guadeloupe, to travel on by barge and enter service by 25 September.
The item showed mobile reverse osmosis units bridging the gap after a natural disaster, when fixed desalination plants were out of action for lack of power.
