In January 2019, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported, citing the Seychelles News Agency, that the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) was enlarging its main desalination plant at Providence on Mahé by 4,500 m³/day, lifting output from 11,500 to 16,000 m³/day. The PUC was paying the US$11 million cost itself. Works covered additional pumps, compressors and further equipment plus a new line feeding a Petit Paris reservoir. Completion was set for the end of July 2019, while La Gouge dam was being emptied for repairs.

The report showed the Seychelles using desalination to bridge a temporarily emptied reservoir; the expansion amounted to a capacity gain of about 40 percent.
