In May 2019, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Biwater Inc. had won a contract for the brackish water reverse osmosis system of the Perris II Desalination Facility, located in Menifee, Southern California. The scope covered design, supply and oversight of installation and commissioning. The client was EMWD (Eastern Municipal Water District), as part of its groundwater desalination programme. The plant was to deliver about 17,000 m³/day (4.5 MGD) for 30,000 households. Work had begun after groundbreaking, with completion expected in 2021.
The report showed Southern California utilities turning to reverse osmosis to unlock salty groundwater and make local sources usable for tens of thousands of households.
