In July 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House), citing Bloomberg, reported that Namibia's government was looking for private investors to fund four desalination plants on its west coast. Public-private partnerships were planned and letters of intent were being prepared. Finance minister Calle Schlettwein also disclosed a dispute with Areva Resources Namibia over the water price from the Areva plant. Completed in 2010, that plant produced 20 million m³ a year (about 55,000 m³/day) for the Trekkopje uranium mine and 8 million m³ a year for the Erongo region.
The report showed that Namibia wanted private capital to fund new desalination while the price of water from an existing industrial plant remained in dispute.
