In August 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Suez had won a €6 million contract from Petrobras, the oil company in which the Brazilian state held a majority. Suez was to supply 11 offshore oil rigs with desalinated water. The three-year agreement included supply, operation and maintenance of seven mobile reverse osmosis units with a capacity of 90 m³/day. It was the first contract Suez had secured to serve offshore oil production.

The report showed mobile reverse osmosis being contracted as a service, including operation and maintenance, in offshore oil production, opening new industrial markets for water companies.
