In February 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Biwater had won contracts for two brackish groundwater desalination expansions in California. Its scope covered designing and delivering reverse osmosis equipment, supervising installation, testing and start-up. Chino Desalter Phase 3 in Chino was set to gain 7,200 m³/day of membrane capacity and Goldsworthy Desalter in Torrance 9,200 m³/day. In Chino the work was also meant to stop saline groundwater reaching the Santa Ana River, while Torrance aimed to cut imported water.
The report showed brackish water desalination in Southern California serving groundwater management and replacing imported water, with expansions of a few thousand cubic metres per day.
