Pilot to recover more water from concentrate, California

In November 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Desalitech and CH2M were to provide a ReFlex Max unit for a six-month pilot at the Orange County Water District Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) in Fountain Valley, California. The trial would test whether Closed Circuit Desalination (CCD) could recover more water from reverse osmosis concentrate using less energy. The potable reuse facility produced about 380,000 m³/day (100 MGD) at 85% recovery; a planned expansion to about 500,000 m³/day (130 MGD) would leave some 87,000 m³/day of concentrate.

The report showed concentrate volumes becoming a planning factor in their own right at large reuse plants in 2016, with higher-recovery methods tested at a full-scale site.
