In April 2021, Middle East Construction News reported that, according to Acciona, the Jebel Ali seawater reverse osmosis plant had reached its full capacity. Acciona and Besix had designed and built the plant for the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), with the engineering firm ILF involved. It delivered 182 million litres of drinking water each day, or 182,000 m³/day, into the city network. Acciona said this placed it among the largest reverse osmosis plants in the Emirates. The site logged over 6.5 million hours without lost-time injury.
The report showed how DEWA brought reverse osmosis into Dubai's supply through a large project that an international consortium finished under pandemic conditions.
