Investment in zero liquid discharge recycling, Wisconsin, USA

In June 2018, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Taiwanese technology group Foxconn was spending $30 million on water recycling with zero liquid discharge (ZLD) at the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park in Wisconsin. Process wastewater was to be distilled and reused, so that almost no wastewater would reach Lake Michigan. Intake from the lake was to fall by more than 13,249 m³/day (3.5 million US gallons) to 9,464 m³/day. Foxconn already used the same approach in Sakai, Japan.

The report showed industrial sites on freshwater lakes adopting distillation-based recycling to cut intake and discharge at the same time, transferring technology from other company plants.
