In September 2018, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that HICL Infrastructure had divested its 9.7 per cent holding in the AquaSure Victorian Desalination Plant PPP for about $114 million. HICL's adviser InfraRed Capital Partners had initiated the deal, with closing due in the fourth quarter of 2018. The price was seven per cent above the stake's value at 31 March 2018. The plant, finished in 2012, was idle until water was first ordered in 2016; after a dry winter, 100 gigalitres were expected to be ordered for 2019.

The report showed that holdings in Australian desalination PPPs were traded among infrastructure investors just as the previously idle plant saw rising demand due to drought.
