In October 2024, the Cyprus Mail reported on plans to prevent water shortages in Cyprus. George Kazantzis, deputy director of the Water Development Department, told the Cyprus News Agency that reservoirs held only 27% of capacity. The country's five desalination plants were working flat out, and earlier technical faults had been fixed. An action plan for the cabinet included mobile desalination units for the Paphos and Limassol districts and more capacity at existing plants. Cloud seeding was also under discussion.
The report showed that Cyprus, facing falling reservoirs, relied mainly on additional desalination and saw mobile units as rapid relief for the districts under most pressure.
