In July 2018, the trade magazine POWER reported on Mirfa, an independent water and power project in Abu Dhabi. Beside the existing thermal desalination unit (MSF) of about 102,300 m³/d, a reverse osmosis plant of about 136,400 m³/d was erected within two years, built by SUEZ through Degrémont for USD 144.7 million. The USD 1.5 billion scheme was delivered by Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Ansaldo Energia. ADWEA held 60 percent, ENGIE and Abu Dhabi Financial Group 20 percent each. Full output was reached in November 2017.

The report showed how the Emirates combined older distillation units with more efficient membrane technology and kept planning power and water production together on a single site.
