In October 2018, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that seven groups were competing to build and run the Sorek 2 desalination plant in Israel. The plant was to supply 200 million m³ a year (about 548,000 m³/day). Besides IDE Technologies, bidders were GES, Hutchison, PMEC, Suez, Acciona with Allied, and Aqualia with WPI. Because a win would have breached antitrust rules, IDE agreed a put option on its Sorek 1 plant (624,000 m³/day), reportedly to be bought by Dan Public Transportation for ILS 500 million ($137 million).
The report showed competition rules shaping Israel's desalination market, as a major domestic provider committed to selling an existing plant in order to compete for the next one.
