In October 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that investor AMP Capital had acquired 5.2% of Australia's Victorian Desalination Plant (VDP). The seller was Pacific Partnerships, the project finance unit of CIMIC Group, which also owns Thiess; Thiess had designed and built the plant jointly with Degremont. AMP Capital made the purchase via its Community Infrastructure Fund (CommIF), whose net asset value reached $500 million by October 2016, up from $55 million six years earlier. The plant earned monthly payments from the Victorian government.

The report showed that large desalination plants run as public-private partnerships appealed to infrastructure funds as assets with predictable, government-backed income.
