In May 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported, citing local outlet Nation News, that the existing desalination plant at Spring Garden in Barbados was due for an expansion. The Barbados Water Authority had hired Williams Industries for the work, which was to add three million gallons of output. According to the responsible minister speaking in the House of Assembly, two new packaged desalination units from Williams Industries and Innotech were also arriving on the island. He had earlier called desalination the only effective answer to the shortages.
The report showed that Barbados was tackling its water shortage at the time by enlarging existing desalination capacity and bringing in compact packaged units.
