In April 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported, citing the Times of India, that seawater desalination in the Indian port of Visakhapatnam had not moved beyond planning despite worsening shortages. The municipal corporation GVMC intended to build a 100,000 m³/day (100 Ml/d) plant, but its size and financing depended on a study by KPMG. Steelmaker RINL was considering its own unit for its steelworks, and a planned 4,000 MW NTPC power station was also to include desalination.
The report showed Indian coastal cities and industry planning desalination while projects stalled over unresolved questions of size, funding and procurement.
