In October 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Osmoflo's desalination plant on Ebeye had been formally opened on 10 October 2017. It consisted of two seawater reverse osmosis units totalling 1,600 m³/day, built in South Australia and shipped some 5,700 km. Kwajalein Atoll Joint Utilities Resources became the owner, while Osmoflo took on two years of operation and maintenance and trained local staff. Funding came from the Asian Development Bank as well as the Australian and US governments.

The report showed how remote Pacific islands were to gain a dependable drinking water supply through prefabricated plants, remote support and international donor funding.
