Pakistan, 2020: Court seeks federal reply on Bundal desalination plan

Court reviews desalination plan on Bundal, Karachi

In December 2020, Daily Times reported that the Sindh High Court in Karachi had asked Pakistan's federal government to respond to a petition. The petition challenged an agreement on a desalination plant on Bundal, an island off the Karachi coast. The court set January 15 as the deadline for the reply. In the hearing, the Additional Attorney General stated that no tenders had been issued so far and that only a study on garbage was under way. The petitioner argued that federal action on Bundal and Buddo bypassed Sindh province.

The report showed that a planned desalination project off Karachi became the subject of a court dispute between the federal level and Sindh province before any construction had started.
