Pipe failure halts desalinated supply, Trinidad and Tobago

In September 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported, citing the Trinidad Express, that a section of pipeline at Trinidad and Tobago's Pt Lisas desalination plant had given way, leaving households without water. Emergency repairs were due to finish on 14 September 2016. Meanwhile, the Water and Sewerage Authority shifted water from the Navet works and the Point Fortin desalination plant. Pt Lisas was run by Desalcott, which had a contract to deliver 182,000 m³/day. General Electric's stake in the company had been bought out in 2012.

The report showed how much an island state's supply depended on a single large desalination plant: one pipeline failure immediately forced water to be redistributed from other works.
