In June 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that GE Water had won a 15-year build-own-operate (BOO) contract for a seawater reverse osmosis facility on Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The client was the Water and Sewerage Corporation of the Bahamas. Rated at 600,000 imperial gallons per day, or about 2,700 m³/day, the plant was to provide drinking water for 7,500 people in northern Eleuthera. It was GE Water's fourth BOO desalination facility on the island, which lies about 80 kilometres east of Nassau.

The report showed that small island utilities at the time sourced desalinated water through long-term operator models in which the private provider took on construction, ownership and operation.
