In October 2022, Chennai-based Hubert Enviro Care Systems (HECS) won three operation and maintenance orders for desalination plants in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, according to a press release from HECS distributed by the news agency ANI. The orders were worth more than 50 crore rupees (about 6.2 million euros) in total. They covered a 22,000 m³/day plant at the Chennai Petroleum Corporation refinery, the new plant at Hindustan Petroleum's Vizag refinery and a seawater reverse osmosis plant at the Kudankulam nuclear power station.
The report showed that industry and power producers in southern India used seawater as process water and contracted out the operation of such plants to specialised service providers.
