In July 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Danish firm Aquaporin and Singapore-based Darco Water Technologies planned a joint forward osmosis pilot. It targeted wastewater from semiconductor production, using Aquaporin Inside membrane elements. Both companies put in money to speed the route to market. The work built on a study by Aquaporin Asia that ran for three years from November 2014, funded by the National Research Foundation within the water research programme of national water agency PUB.
The report showed biomimetic membranes moving from research into industrial pilots, with Singapore serving as a test bed for that step.
