A tenders committee at Israel's finance ministry published the prequalification for the Western Galilee B desalination plant on 26 October. It is to be built south of Nahariya next to Western Galilee A, which is under construction, and deliver around 100 million m³ a year; together the two plants reach about 200 million m³. The concessionaire will finance, design, build and operate the plant for around 25 years before handing it to the state. According to Bizportal, power will come from the grid; an on-site power plant is ruled out.

According to JFeed, Israel's desalination delivers around 800 million m³ a year today, with a target of about 1.5 billion m³. After this summer's algae bloom, which shut five of six large plants, another site in the north is being added.
