Australia, 2017: Victorian Desalination Plant falls short of order

Desalination plant falls short of order, Victoria

In July 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that AquaSure had missed the first water order from the Victorian Desalination Plant by 4 million m³. Delivery of 50 million m³ was due by 30 June 2017, but switchgear damage in January had delayed the restart. Water minister Lisa Neville announced reduced payments. Since March 2017 the plant had averaged 467,000 m³/day, or 105 per cent of nominal output. A further order of 15 million m³ was to be met by the end of September.

The item showed a risk facing large plants held on standby for years: a single fault in the power supply during restart could jeopardise contracted delivery volumes.
