In June 2020, Middle East Construction News, citing a statement, reported that construction of the Jebel Ali reverse osmosis plant in Dubai had reached three million working hours without a lost-time injury. The DEWA plant was more than 70 per cent built and was designed to supply 183,000 m³/day for some 500,000 residents. ACCIONA and BESIX were the EPC contractors, with ILF as engineer. Completion was scheduled for late 2020. Work continued under COVID-19 safety rules.

The report showed that on large Gulf desalination projects, construction progress and site safety were publicised as achievements in their own right, shared by client, engineers and construction consortium.
