Mobile desalination plant for the islands, Fiji

In April 2020, Fijivillage reported that Fiji's Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management had been given a mobile reverse osmosis plant as a donation. It can treat 50,000 litres of seawater a day for drinking and domestic purposes. Minister Inia Seruiratu named Dravuni and Naqara on Kadavu as the first sites. Over three years the ministry had spent $1.2 million transporting water to drought-hit islands from the main islands Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Neil Towner spoke for Sea Mercy Fiji at the handover.

The report showed how a small mobile desalination unit was meant to reduce costly water deliveries to an island nation's outer islands during emergencies and droughts.
