In April 2020, Acciona announced a 500 million US dollar contract from the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) for the Al Khobar 2 reverse osmosis plant on Saudi Arabia's east coast, around 400 km from Riyadh. Partner was Al Rashid Trading and Contracting Company (RTCC). With over 600,000 m³/day, it was to serve some three million people. According to Acciona, it was the company's fourth desalination project in the country, after Shuqaiq 3 (450,000 m³/day), Al Khobar 1 (210,000 m³/day) and Jubail RO4 for Marafiq.
The report showed a European supplier building a position in the Saudi market through successive large contracts; Al Khobar 2 was described as the largest reverse osmosis plant awarded in a single EPC contract in the Kingdom.
