In May 2016, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Veolia CEO Antoine Frérot had opened T Park in Hong Kong on 26 May, described as the largest facility of its kind worldwide. It received sludge from eleven treatment works, shrank it by 90 per cent and processed 1,200 tonnes daily, sized for 2,000 tonnes by 2030. An on-site desalination unit turned seawater from Shenzhen Bay into drinking and process water, and all site wastewater was reused. Its 2 MW power surplus could serve 4,000 homes.

The item presented desalination as one component of a largely self-sufficient infrastructure site, alongside sludge processing, on-site power generation and full reuse of its own wastewater.
