In January 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that Poseidon Water's planned seawater desalination plant in Huntington Beach, California, appeared on a list said to have been leaked by President Trump's transition team. The list named 50 priority infrastructure schemes worth a combined USD 137.5 billion, half of it expected from private investors. The desalination scheme ranked 44th, with an estimated cost of USD 350 million and 400 direct jobs. Sized at about 189,000 m³/day (50 million US gallons daily), the plant was still going through permitting.

The report showed that a large Californian desalination scheme was at the time also being discussed at national level in the US as an infrastructure project for supply and employment.
