In March 2019, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House) reported that WorleyParsons and WatershipBlue had signed a Master Services Agreement for waterships worldwide. These were converted second-hand oil tankers equipped as floating seawater desalination plants, anchored offshore and sending water ashore through a subsea pipeline, each producing more than 189,000 m³/day (50 MGD). WorleyParsons and its advisory arm Advisian were to handle programme management, engineering, construction management, geotechnical and environmental services, and help WatershipBlue with sales.
The agreement pointed to growing interest in mobile, ship-based desalination as a faster alternative to onshore plants, although the report named no specific project.
