In October 2018, PROCESS Worldwide reported that the German ultrafiltration specialist inge had won a contract in September for a seawater desalination project in Oman commissioned by Al Asilah Desalination Company and OPWP. System integrator Doosan chose ultrafiltration as pre-treatment ahead of reverse osmosis instead of sand filters, although the tender had not specified it. inge was to supply twelve T-Rack 3.0 racks with more than 1,400 dizzer XL modules. The plant was designed for 170 million litres per day (170,000 m³/day) and was due for commissioning in early 2020.
The report shows that ultrafiltration as a pre-treatment stage for reverse osmosis was gaining ground in large projects at the time, even where tenders still assumed conventional sand filters.
