In February 2019, Khaleej Times reported that the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) had finished two new transmission pipelines beneath Sharjah Creek. Linking Al Alliah with Al Jubail, they carried a combined 60 million gallons a day and cost AED 17 million. SEWA chairman Rashid Al Leem said the lines more than doubled how much desalinated water could reach the far bank from the plant. Sharjah needed over 110 million gallons daily, half of it from Al Alliah. Construction took eleven months.
The report showed that in Sharjah, moving desalinated water could become as much of a bottleneck as producing it, and that pipeline capacity had to keep pace with urban growth.
