In December 2023, The Corner reported, citing an analyst note by Intermoney, that the Government of Western Australia had provisionally selected Acciona's bid for the Alkimos seawater desalination plant. The note relied on the newspaper Expansión. Located about 40 kilometres from Perth, the plant was to deliver up to 100 billion litres of drinking water a year for the region's 2.5 million inhabitants. The budget stood at AU$2.8 billion, about 1.7 billion euros. Power was to come entirely from clean sources, secured through a long-term PPA.

The report showed the scale at which the low-rainfall Perth region was turning to seawater desalination and how closely such plants were tied to renewable power. The figures, however, came second-hand.
