Utility confirms island plant is running, Taveuni

In September 2020, Fiji Village reported that the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) confirmed the desalination plant at Navaca on Taveuni island was operating and released a video as proof. It was answering an opposition politician's claim that the plant, installed in 2014 at a cost of 3 million dollars, had stood idle for 18 months. The authority rejected that claim. It said it trucked water to residents on weekdays on request and directed anyone affected to its contact number 5777.

The report showed that the condition of a single desalination plant on a remote Fijian island had become a public dispute, and that the utility responded with video evidence and water deliveries.
