In August 2021, World Hope International announced that a Haitian-led aid coalition planned to bring 30,000 litres of drinking water a day (30 m³/d) to areas struck by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake, enough for some 15,000 people. The water came from the solar-powered GivePower desalination plant on the island of La Gonâve, which had run since May 2020 with up to 70,000 litres a day (70 m³/d) and was undamaged. World Central Kitchen, CORE and WISH also took part, and Amazon donated 17,000 containers of 20 litres each.
The report showed that a small off-grid desalination plant could serve, beyond the needs of its own island, as a source of emergency supply for an earthquake zone.
