In June 2017, Water. Desalination + reuse (Faversham House), citing the Manila Bulletin, reported that Mactan Rock Industries had obtained a loan of PHP 500 million (about USD 10 million) granted by Development Bank of the Philippines. The money was to raise desalination output at Mactan Economic Zones 1 and 2 and at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport fivefold, to 25,000 m³/day from 5,000. The company ranked among the country's biggest desalination suppliers and ran a 22,000 m³/day seawater plant in Cebu City plus several smaller brackish and seawater units.
The report showed rising demand from industry and tourism in the Philippines prompting private desalination operators to expand with the help of bank loans.
